caps 4, flyers 6…empty net goal NOOOOOOOOOO!

okay, so what are the good things about today’s caps-flyers faceoff?

well, the caps suffered no major injuries from the thuggish flyers. indeed, the flyers were on good behavior, garnering nothing more than a total of 17 penalty minutes for the lone serious fight in the game.

and the caps continue to have goals spread among the team – today, it was ovechkin, semin, green, and nylander doing the honors.

in addition, the caps came out strong, with a goal within the first two minutes of the game.

but that drive and fight they had didn’t last. the balance of the game tipped halfway through the first period, when the flyers started outshooting the caps. despite valiant rallies by the caps in the second period, they never quite came back. olie kolzig got pulled after goal #4. and the caps made multiple turnovers which coach bodreau blamed for the loss. the final goal by the flyers – an empty net special – just seemed to sweep right in with no one throwing their bodies in front of it.

it was a heck of a hockey game to watch, with a lot more excitement and goals than the thursday night snoozer against the canadiens, but the boys need to straighten up against those turnovers, especially because the flyers were playing politely. we need to be able to win against them at their bullying best.
